PhD Project: New starch for Novel applications

Starch is well known for its unique properties for various food and non-food applications. In the current study, the possibility of utilizing different types of starches on novel applications will be studied. Different types of starches developed by novel biotechnological approaches will be chemically characterized and the influence of starch molecular structure on the functionalities will be studied. Thereby, the knowledge can be utilized in plant breeding aspects to develop plants with tailor-made starches.

About Shishanthi

I am from Sri Lanka, and I first came to Sweden as an Erasmus+ exchange student from the University of Peradeniya (Sri Lanka) to perform my M.Sc. thesis study in SLU, Uppsala. The time I spent as an exchange master student was fantastic, which motivated me to seek opportunities to continue my PhD studies at the same University. I am enjoying my time as a PhD student in almost every aspect and the potential applicability of the research project in its own small way for a green future makes it more exciting.
