PhD project title: Lifetime net GHG emissions and contribution to the food system from dairy cows fed best practice diets

Short description of the project

This project investigates lifetime greenhouse gas emissions from high‑producing dairy cows fed diets composed of feedstuffs associated with low environmental impact. By analysing both inputs and outputs of dairy production, the research calculates net food production, carbon flows and the overall environmental footprint of the system.

The project is part of the SustAinimal Research Centre and aims to provide science‑based insights into the role of livestock in a sustainable food system, contributing to better assessments and improved management strategies for dairy production.

About me

I am from Chios, a Greek island in the northern Aegean Sea. I am a licensed veterinarian with a Veterinary Medicine degree from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. After completing the Animal Science master’s programme at SLU, I began my PhD studies in the Department of Animal Nutrition and Management.

Sustainability assessment is a complex field requiring a multidisciplinary approach, including greenhouse gas emissions, net food output and system competitiveness. As a SustAinimal PhD student, I enjoy learning more about these interconnected areas. I am motivated by contributing to research that evaluates the role of livestock and supports the development of a more sustainable food system.
